We extend a warm welcome to disabled visitors and others with access needs.

Level access is via our ramped entrance on Bridge Street. Pressing a button on the outside of the building in Bridge Street automatically opens the doors for wheelchair users. The Upper Gallery has level access via a lift.
A carer or companion is welcome to join a ticket holder free of charge. To book your carer or companion ticket, please select a free carer ticket when booking online.

We have a sensory bag available. It contains: Ear defenders, a squishy toy, a fidget toy, a cuddly toy and a communication fan.

The Victoria Art Gallery has two main large galleries. There may be times where a lot of visitors are there at the same time, but both galleries will have open areas to navigate to.

Lower Gallery

There are temporary exhibitions with differing configurations. If you are concerned then please contact us to check.

Upper Gallery

The Upper Gallery is currently closed for renovations and repair of the roof. Due to reopen 2024.

On the first floor there are the permanent collection displays, with views from front to back. A small display area with decorative arts leads to the lift and accessible toilet. There is a risk of claustrophobia as the only way out is the lift or turning back to the Upper Rotunda. You can, if you wish, omit this part of the visit by navigating to the stairs instead.
